How SEE can Help -- SEE Services

Schools for Equity in Education encourages and supports the involvement of parents and citizens in our work with state legislators and leaders. Quality education for all Minnesota children is just one of many issues before our state leaders. For education to become and stay a priority, state legislators must hear from education supporters across the state. Together, we can all make a difference by being informed and engaged in the legislative process.

To support parent and community legislative efforts, SEE’s Community Liaison, Deb Griffiths, can provide the following services to all education supporters in our member districts:

Legislative Training for Parents, Community Members, Staff, and School Boards
Deb can meet with groups, both large or small, to provide an introduction to basic school funding, the legislative process, tips for effective citizen lobbying, and suggestions for developing a local legislative network. These meetings can range from an informal gathering with one or several people at a local coffee shop to a more formal PowerPoint presentation for a larger group.

Legislative Updates
During the legislative session, Deb will email weekly legislative updates. Included in the updates is information on what is happening that week at the Capitol, how proposed education legislation might impact SEE districts and timely suggestions for education supporters to get involved. Sign up to receive these updates by entering your email address in the sign-up box to the right.

Capitol Visits
The most effective communication tool is a face-to-face meeting with your legislator. For school board members, parents and community members interested in scheduling a trip to the Capitol, Deb will meet and accompany your group during your visit, assist in arranging meetings with your local legislators, and provide an update on legislative activities and committee hearings.

Ongoing Support and Information
Deb can provide ongoing support and information to individual legislative networks and SEE community members. Feel free to call or email with questions or comments at or 612/309-0089
