Current SEE Education Revenue and Equity Data

The History of the General Education Basic Formula
The basic formula is per pupil funding that districts receive from the state. These dollars determine a district's operating fund. This chart shows that the basic formula would have to be increased by $1,903 for schools to have the same buying power they had back in 1991.

Minnesota Budget Information

School Districts Fund Balances
Minnesota Statute 127A.46 allows the state to delay payments to school districts to avoid short term borrowing if school districts have fund reserves on hand. Minnesota needs to defer up to $550 million in March, April and May of 2010. The delay of payments is NOT a cut. The state must repay this delay by June 30, 2010. The MDE has prepared a spreadsheet with school district fund reserves. For more information, read Brad's Blog
Note: The spreadsheet outlines the maximum amount a district's cash flow could be affected due to this provision. It is likely to be much less.
