A quality public school system creates a highly educated work force which is vital for the economic prosperity of Minnesota. The State of Minnesota has a constitutional obligation to ensure that all Minnesota children have equal access to a high quality education that will prepare them for the challenges of the 21st century and the global economy that they will be competing in.

Who We Are . . .

  • Schools for Equity in Education (SEE) is an association of 61 school districts throughout the state of Minnesota.

  • Our member school districts serve approximately one third of Minnesota's K-12 public school students.

  • SEE districts tend to have fairly typical student populations and also tend to have lower property wealth. These combined characteristics along with the current problems in the state’s funding formula result in most SEE districts receiving well below the state average in funding.

We Believe That . . .

  • The state of Minnesota is constitutionally responsible for equitable and adequate funding to sustain a high quality educational system throughout Minnesota.

  • The current funding system is broken and has created alarming funding disparities between school districts.

  • Minnesota state leaders and legislators must make education a priority and work together to preserve the integrity of Minnesota’s schools.

What We Do . . .

  • SEE advocates for policy that ensures all public school children have equal access to a high quality education, regardless of where they live in Minnesota.

  • SEE lobbies for equal, adequate and sustainable education funding.

  • SEE supports and encourages the involvement of parents, community members, business, staff and school board members in our work with state legislators and leaders.
